OK, so I have a vintage JCM 800 1960a cab with G12T75s. I can't stand them. Oddly enough, I like the pair of G12T75s I have in a standard Mojotone 2x12 cab. I have an '80s Laney 412 cab with G12M70s, and it sounds excellent. However, I also have an early 80s Carvin 412 cab with G12M70s, and it sounds terrible. Help! The 1960s sounds britlle and grainy with the G12T75s. I want it to sound more like the Laney, but those exact same speakers in another slanted 412 (the Carvin) sounds terrible. I'd love it if it sounded more like my 212 as well, but that already has the same speakers in it as the 1960a. Am I crazy? I sure do FEEL crazy. The Carvin cab is getting sold, but I really want to get the Marshall 1960a to sound good so I can use it live. I'm looking for a smooth but heavy sound. This is what the Laney and the Mojotone 212 sound like. Nice rich bottom end with smooth (not spikey) mids and a non-brittle top end. Help? I think I've lost my mind...
Of course it is possible that the G12M70's in the Carvin were suffering from age-related issues ... maybe they had just been rode hard & put up wet one too many times!
