My main rig is a Mesa TA-30 Head (40W, 30W, 15W) with a 1 x 12 23" Birch Plywood Express Cab Open Back with a Mesa Boogie C90 Black Shadow Speaker. I'd describe the sound as 3 dimensional, very clean, and very open. I don't notice much speaker breakup.

I recently purchased a VOX Night Train 7.5W / 15W head for use at home. I purchased a Tweaker 1 x 12 Open Back which has the Celestion GH1230 in it. It sounds pretty decent, but when I dig in it sort of has this mid range breakup I'm not sure I like. I noticed this same character in the Reaper 30, and Reaper 50. I have opted to take the Tweaker cab back.

I have ordered an unloaded Rocket Cab 1 x 12 hand built solid pine cab that I can use open back like I prefer with the option of making it a closed back. I guess I'm saying I seem partial to open back due to the open and dimensional sound. I also like my clean sound to remain clean, open, and sparkle. I thought a Black and Blue would sound special in this handbuilt cab, but would limit this cab to this amp only. I think my TA-30 would over power this speaker a little? I know you recommend the ET65 a lot. What do you recommend, I am open to suggestion, and for my own knowledge what WGS speaker is equivalent to the Mesa C90 Black Shadow?

I play in a cover band and it is mostly Alternative Rock, Classic Rock. I do play some Hard Rock, but not really metal.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi ... here is the key :

You are on exactly the right track ... just make it a Blackhawk instead of the B-n-B and you will be very, very happy!
