The Swart AST is an incredible, organic, super-sensitive, audiphile build quality tweed. The British style Greenback clone that comes in to to my mind clashes with that vibe..especially with a tele, it's just impossible to dial out that shrill ice-pick quality. Purely on verbal description I took a shot and ordered a G-12 smooth cone. Miracle! All of that Band type midrange funk, with hi-fi quality definition and punch, clear nigh end, but no ice-pick. In my humble it's designed for players who, like me, want to go more or cable right into the amp, and want to wring the most character, nuance, crunch, pickup dynamic, and string-to-string balance out of their setup. A marvelous combination. Pete Townshend once described his objective in his electric tone as a really loud sound that maintained the attack and delay characteristics of an acoustic. I'd say there's a bit of that going on with the Swart-Smooth Cone combo. If you chicken pick, you'll be in heaven!
