Hi,
I have a unique situation, looking for speakers to pair with Celestion V30's in 2X12 open back cabinets. I currently run an Avatar 2x12 cab with 2 V30's under an Egnater Tweaker 40 head. I also have an empty 2X12 cab that I am going to start using at most (not all) venues.
Initially I was going to pair two WGS speakers in the empty cab, and that would be fairly easy, but after alot of consideration I decided to put one V30 in each of the 2X12 cabs and add a WGS speaker to pair with the celestiions. This way, if I am just using one cabinet, I will have dissimilar speakers paired. I looked up the V30 specs and the sensitivity of that speaker is 100db, which is the same as the WGS ET90 and Retro 30. I like the Retro 30 alot, but not shure how the V30 would get along with it. But, would I need to run equally sensitive speakers together? My thoughts have run from adding 2 ET65's (or Retro 30's) one to each cab, or an ET65 to one cab and a Retro 30 to the other, pair the V30's with a G12C, etc.... It is consuming my daily thoughts, back and forth.
Currently, I am not in love with the Celestion V30's, but they get the job done. I really don't like their aggresive attitude when recording or playing softer passages and songs. But, when playing at volume, I have to admit that they do sit in the mix nicely and have the ability to cut through the mix when needed. What I am looking to do is add some dimension to my current rig, and change things up a bit. I am intriqued by mixing and matching speakers, but since i live in the rural midwest, I have no chance to test out speakers or experiment with different pairings. This will be a leap of faith.
We play what I call aggresive blues/classic rock, and currently I play Strats and a Tele. Any ideas, suggestions, and opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Craig
PS Woke up this morning to actual temp of -9, brrrrrrrrrr...
Where in the Midwest (I'm from Minnesota)? Shoot, here in Nashville it was only 8-degrees this am :-(
Anyway ... I think the ET90's will fit the bill for you the best ... pretty much nail it, in fact!
Im in SW Iowa, outside of Omaha, NE. Didn't realize you guys were in the deep freeze too! Dang, I bet the "locals" were hating that crap.... Of course, you probably adjusted instantly and didn't even notice that it was cold out....... Since you are from the frozen tundra of Minnesota, eh?
ET 90's it is! Great to get validation on something like this, just proves that the exceptionally talented all think alike!! Uh-huh..!
Thanks for your time and consideration, WGS has a great thing going.
