Hi Vaughn

I'm looking for a speaker to go in a 1x12 (semi open or closed back) cab to be used with a Line 6 DT25 head. It's 25w class AB or 10w class A and I use it to produce Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe and Marshall sounds. What speaker would you recommend that would suit that range of amps? I realise it may be a compromise (as is the DT25 itself!).

I'm don't go for a lot of high gain and I go for varied tones from Hendrix, RHCP, Black Crowes, Radiohead, Nile Rodgers, Coldplay, U2 and praise and worship stuff.

I also tend to play only at moderate volumes. I'm thinking Reaper 30 or ET65?

I also have an open back 2x12 cab that I might fit with WGS speakers later.

Thanks for your help.

Yep, that's right where I'm at ... and I vote for semi-open.

Thanks Vaughn.

I've got a project coming up where I'll mostly be using clean tones. Would the ET65 be better for cleans? I think I've heard that the ET65 shines with clean tones whereas the Reaper is best for OD. I think I'll eventually get both in 2 separate 1x12s.

Oh yea!  The ET65 does kill on clean ... but remember it's a medium-magnet speaker ... if you want a similar tone that will give you a bit more volume, consider the ET90 also.  Otherwise, yea, go for the ET65 :-)  ...please post back with your results, too!!

I'm looking to build a cab for my DT25 head too.  What did you end up with and how did it all come together?

I went for a Reaper 30 in a semi open back 1x12. I'm really pleased with it with my DT25. I turn off the cab sims and it's much more responsive and 'guitar-like' than using a Line 6 speaker with cab sims. It seems really flexible - great with cleans, edge of break up and crunch/od. There's no harshness there that I'd always been trying to dial out with the L6 speakers (and other amps) and, although I haven't had much opportunity to play loud, it's got great depth and responsiveness across the volume range.

I'd like to get another 1x12 that I could use alongside or instead of the Reaper. I'm tempted by a Green Beret or variant, but the ET65/90 seems to get more recommendations. ???
