WGS Black Hawk HP 100 in 85W Mesa Mark IV Combo, Break-in suggestions?

I received a new Black Hawk HP 100W speaker that I installed in my 85W Mesa Boogie Mark IV (version b) Combo. This speaker is definately an upgrade from the stock MC90.  Sounds incredible out of the box.  No dissapointment in tone or character through all 3 channels (overdrive sounds much better).  The first initial 2 hours I have been conservative on volume settings.  However,  I did notice a slight buring smell (smelled like electrical insulation burning).  Once I noticed the odor I immediately switched the amp to standby and checked the speaker.  The driver cover was moderately warm to the touch as was the basket.  Did I burn out the voice coil?  I let everything cool down for a few hours.  After that I now have my extenstion cab hooked up to distribute the electrial load to reduce the effective current thought the Black Hawk.  Speaker hookup creates parallel connection in the amp to both speakers.  The new speaker still sounds great.  Should I be concerned with the smell and possible overheating of the voice coil?  DC resistance measures close to 8 ohms (though a multimeter,  not a 4 wire resistance measurement for precision measurement,  I do have the resouces available to measure coil impedance if needed).  Is the odor normal during break-in period.  Any suggestions?
