Hi,

Huge fan of wgs here and have owned quite a few models. All have had their strengths and weaknesses but all were incredible good overall. Have a 18 watt Marshall clone in the 1974x style that I just can't find the right speaker for. Tried a green beret and had too focused mids. Tried. G12c and just didn't have any British flavor. Tried an et65 and was too dark. Currently have an invader in their and it sounds pretty good but feel like it has too much clean head room. Do I need to try a vet 30 or a retro? Open to other ceramic recommendations. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is a 1x12 combo btw.

thanks

stephen

Yea, I'd say the Vet 30 or Ret 30 would make the most sense ... since you found the ET65 too dark, I'd take the Reaper off the list.

Of the two, the Vet 30 is a little more tonally like the GB ... but without quite as much of the "focused mids".  The Ret 30 is more rounded out, with more on the bottom ... and a good bit more top end, too (but not as much as the G12).

I have a Celestion Blue and a Celestion H30 in my 18 watt clone they sound pretty good together. Maybe a Black and Blue might work for you?

Which would be a Black & Blue and Reaper in WGS land...

I have an 18 watt 1974 too and I use a reaper and a veteran in an open back cab (2 8 ohms in series) and it sounds amazing.
