Less "wooley" ET65 ?

I have a pair of ET65 that I use in an Avatar 212 cab and use with both a Mesa Electra Dyne and Mesa Mark V. I play mostly classic rock and blues based stuff and although I like the ET65, I find them a little wooley and sometimes little muffled. What can I use that will give me similar lows, not too bright and a ittle less wooley and maybe a little more chewy mids. I need it to sit a little "lower" in the mix as the other guitar player in the band has a brighter rig (uses a plexi and reapers)and I don't want to compete for the same frequency. I was thinking maybe Retro 30, Liberators or maybe even Reaper HP. Suggestions ?

Yes, I usually think of the ET65 as a "Character" speaker ... one to fix an overly bright amp or to add girth when pairing with another speaker.  Yes, the Liberator is a less "wooley" ET65 ... but ... The combo that has been rocking my world lately is the ET65 w/ a Retro 30.

I'm not a huge fan of mixing speakers as I find that it creates issues when trying to mic the cab onstage ( which one to mic and the I always forget which speaker is which inside the cab).

With that in mind, would you then recommend a pair of Liberators ?

Great point!  In a closed 2x12, I'd be the same way!  It's a little easier in a 4x12 to just know that your "bassier" speakers are on the bottom, and the brighter speakers are on top.

So, given your tonal tastes and desire to keep the bloodlines pure, then ... yes, a pair of Liberators.

What about Retro 30's ?  I've never had a chance to demo them.

The Retro 30's are voiced similar to a Vintage 30 ... but they are better in every imaginable way ... one of my overall favs in the WGS lineup.  Very smooth and extended top, tight usable bottom, and a little of the V30's signature midrange urgency.
