I have been researching what I should fill my orange 4x12 with. It currently has gt-75s in it which I am not happy with. I have decided that the reaper is what i am looking for but i am not sure whether to get the standard reaper or the reaper HP. I will be using either my JMP(100 watt) or my orange or80 with the cab. I like lots of volume and gain, sort of Dinosaur Jr or Sabbath kinda stuff. Would it be a good idea to put two of each speaker in the 4x12? Any tips are appreciated.
i forgot to add, would it be a good idea to have two of each in the 4x12?
Strictly from a power-handling perspective, you would be quite fine with the standard Reaper.
The main difference is that the HP's would give you little to no speaker break-up and compression, and would have a bottom end that remains totally tight even at the highest volumes your rig can give it.
And sure, you can mix them for the solid bottom of the HPs and the slight compression of the standard Reapers.
thanks Vaughn. I really enjoy reading and watching your blogs. If i do mix them, would you reccomend the HPs on the bottom or an X pattern?
Personally ... it would be HP's on the bottom :)
got the 4 reapers installed in the cab. played it with my jmp and my mesa mark iii. sounds so much better than before. thanks so much for the help and for making these great speakers. I also have a 2x12 avatar with an et65 and a retro 30 in it. Also very great!
