10" Shoot Out Finale - The BIG GUNS!

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is it, this is what you have been waiting for! The great finale.  This week I conclude the ultimate 10-inch shootout. If you caught the last two blogs, then you know that the diminutive little  WGS Veteran 10 has been doing amazingly well, sounding richer and warmer and beefier on the bottom end and smoother on the top end than either the Jensen P10R Alnico or the Eminence/Fender blue-frame Alnico ten .  In this last shootout, I’m going to pull out the big guns, the WGS G10A and G10C. As before, we used a pair of matching Custom Vibrolux Reverb amps, one with the stock Jensen’s, and one with a WGSG10A/G10C combination.  I know those speakers well, so I thought was prepared for what was to come, but it actually caught me off guard.  Read on dear reader, read on!

In a nutshell, the G10’s rocked our world.  The G10’s were so much louder that they were hitting my limiters to about 8-10 dB of limiting - where as all of the other speakers we had tried up to that point had only hit a dB or two of limiting.  So, that equates to an overall volume increase of about 6-7 dB, very notable fur sure!  The biggest difference, however, was in the bottom end, which really became huge.

Okay, I’ll shut up now and let the video do the rest of my talking for me.  If a pic is worth a thousand words, then how many words is a video worth??

Next week will be somthing totally different, see ya then.  Ya all be good now!

Hello Vaughn. I just wanted to say thanks for the video demos. They sound great. I live in a part of the country where actually getting my hands on some WGS speakers to test them out is difficult, so getting to hear side-by-side comparisons through these videos is incredibly helpful. I am really looking forward to hearing the comparison with Celestions. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

AWESOME!  I'm glad this is working for some of ya all out there! -Vaughn-

Vaughn, you are doing a great job with the speaker shootout videos! I look forward to the newsletter every week to see what's going on! The videos just make it so much more informative and entertaining. I am a total tone freak, so I love having the luxury of actually hearing what these great products do before I buy. Especially in comparison situations like this! Anyway, awesome work, and I'll be tuned in for every vid!

 Rock on, guys!

Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming!  They've been a great help, and the way you make them is perfect.  Can't wait to hear some high gain samples, as I am looking for the perfect speaker for my Peavey Vypyr 75.  I'm looking for a speaker for that amp that'll do the Stevie Ray clean and bluesy tones, the Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile tones, and the high gain Metallica tones.  Quite a lot to ask from one speaker, but I hope to find the answer with WGS.  Thanks again for the high quality vids!

I really love all the head-to-head comparisons, and I'm really looking forward to the marshall / british line of speaker comparisons.  I'd love to hear direct comparisons between the Green Beret, ET65, Vet 30, etc, along with a celestion or two... these types of shootouts really help us make informed buying decisions!
